MAGIC MIRROR
MAGIC MIRROR Below is a photograph taken by Erwin Blumenfeld, a renowned fashion photographer. In the 1950s, Blumenfeld was the highest paid photographer in the world. He has had more photos on the front cover of Vogue than any other photographer. Perhaps the photo inspired Harry Worth’s famous shop-window pose – see inside for a photo of his pose. "Magic mirror in my hand, who is the fairest in the land?" is the classic line in Snow White, one of the Grimms’ Fairy Tales that was adapted by Walt Disney in its classic 1937 film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The magic mirror always replied to the evil Queen: "My Queen, you are the fairest in the land." But one morning, the mirror shocked the Queen by replying, “You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But Snow White is even fairer than you.” The Queen sought to have Snow White killed, but Snow White escaped to a forest and was given shelter by seven dwarves – Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Sneezy. What do you first see when you look in the mirror? What do you most and least like what you see in the mirror? Who is your favourite Snow White dwarf? Do you say dwarfs or dwarves? I look at my eyes first as they are what I most like to look at in a mirror. It is my greying hair that I least like looking at. Grumpy was my favourite dwarf, and I say dwarves! |
