The Australian performance artist, Casey Jenkins, describes herself as a craftivist who founded the Craft Cartel, a Melbourne-based organisation that combines crafting and political activism. Her recent Casting Off My Womb project involves vaginal knitting – see the two photos above and below.

Vaginal knitting, in Casey Jenkins’ words, involves “skeins of wool lodged in my vagina to knit a long piece, marking one menstrual cycle”. The artist spends 28 days knitting each piece of knitwear. She admits that knitting is more difficult while she is menstruating because the wool is wet and she has to tug on the thread harder. Casey Jenkins believes her work is “beautiful and valid”.

 “beautiful and valid”? Not so much. Unique and strange oh yes. I think I would pass on her sweaters. No I can not knit, but I have been looking for a lady to help me by knitting this for me
