I LIKE CAMP BUT NOT CAMPING

Carry on Camping:

I don’t like camping especially if there’s a hotel nearby. I’ve only gone camping twice; I’ve watched Carry on Camping far more times than I’ve been camping. And I’ve never had sex while camping, which I’m told is intense!

However, I do like camp. Camp is a style; a style of behaving, a style of presenting, a style of dressing, a style of speaking and even a style of living. As an adjective, camp means affected, effeminate, exaggerated, ostentatious and theatrical.

According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the adjective probably derives from the French verb, camper, meaning “to portray, pose”.

Here’s my list of camp: Carry on films, Dusty Springfield, Liberace, Batman and Robin, Vladimir Putin, disco music, Punch and Judy, Alice Cooper, gothic architecture, Alan Carr, Are You Being Served?, Dame Edna Everage, Freddie Mercury, France, Ruby Wax, circus shows, Frankie Howerd, Twin Peaks, Peter Mandelson, Eurovision Song Contest, Dale Winton, Pink Flamingos, golf, David Walliams, garden gnomes, Kenny Everett, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Bette Midler, Abba, pantomime shows, Valley of the Dolls, Julian Clary (especially with Fanny the Wonder Dog), plastic pink flamingos, Psy, Donald Trump, Lesley Joseph, fashion shows, Kenneth Williams, disco mirror balls, Kylie Minogue, Tiffany lamps, Swan Lake, Dick Emery, Santa Claus, bearskin-hatted soldiers, Graham Norton, tribute bands, Britain’s royal family, The Gherkin tower, and Simon Cowell.

For me, camp is frivolous fun. It’s partly what’s wrong with business and politics; there’s just not enough camp amidst all that controlled, on-message, meaningless but screw-you bullshit. There needs to be far more camp in the world!

Campy post!

I camped in the woods when I was a kid. (Probably mostly at "campgrounds" in the woods".)

I spent a good part of my 30's "urban camping".

Simon Cowell is many things. And a "camp" is one of them!

Do you like camp? As an expression , sure. "As an adjective, camp means affected, effeminate, exaggerated, ostentatious and theatrical", not so much

If so, what’s on your list of camp? I don't think I have one

Do you think Simon Cowell is camp? Actually I think he is an ass, does that count?

I like the original definition of camp...with a tent!

Not big on "camp" to pose....I like real not posed shots or movies!

Do you think Simon Cowell is camp?
I don't care for Simon....I think he is leech...yes he finds talent then his production company takes advantage of them...sucking them dry.

I love camp.....and ALL the carry on films. Barbara Windsor was hilarious in them. Dusty Springfield and Freddie Mercury were fantastic.....and what about Dick Emery.

I also used to go camping a lot when the kids were small.

Do you like camp? Sure do Iove camping.. Not in a tent but in a camper van. I did enough tenting when I was in the military
If so, what’s on your list of camp? lots of things.. I even worked on a few of them while I was away this time.. Don't forget about fishing.

My idea of camping is a cheap motel. I am not a fan.
