RADICAL IN THE YARD BUT NOT ON THE STAGE

Princess Anne:

The most radical act I’ve done was committed in the backyard of my parents’ home.

Aged nine, I stormed out of the kitchen and went to the backyard that was in full view from the kitchen window. I grabbed the bowl and placed it in the middle of the yard, dropped my trousers and had a poo in the bowl.

I do not know why I did this dirty protest but clearly it must have been a very important issue of principle!

My parents were shocked but perhaps they shouldn’t have been as a couple of years earlier I had climbed up to the top shelf where a tin of paraffin was stored and had a few gulps of paraffin. I was rushed to hospital to have my stomach pumped out.

My least radical act was committed in my early twenties at my graduation ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Princess Anne was due to confer my degree. Before the ceremony, students were advised that we were required to bow or curtsey when being introduced to Princess Anne.

As a republican, I didn’t want to bow to royalty so beforehand I decided not to bow much to the annoyance of my royalist parents. But as I approached Princess Anne on the graduation stage, I lowered my neck to bow.

I chickened out! I’m not sure whether it was because of the majesty of royalty or my watching and disapproving parents - probably a bit of both! I'm now left wondering what would have happened to the future of royalty if I hadn't bowed

What is the most radical act that you’ve done either as a or an adult?
Would you bow or curtsey if you were introduced to British royalty?

When I did a poo in the bowl, it was a cheap metal bowl. When my parents brought up the poo incident much later, I explained that I wouldn’t have done it if they had bought a decent bowl for the pet dog!

The French jewellery designer Karin Fainas has designed a bowl made from gold-dipped bronze. This bowl costs $14,000 and can be purchased from an upmarket accessory shop in Paris.

If Karin Fainas’ bowl is out of your reach, you can always buy a Swarovski-studded bowl, designed by BB Simon, for a mere $1,376. Or you can go downmarket and, for about $30, you can buy the Godinger Crystal Bowl.

I have supplies of all three bowls if you’d like to buy direct from me. Just let me know what bowl you want, plus how many, and send a cheque to me. I’ll then send your order to you without charge for packaging and posting. It’s a great deal if you love your pet dogs!

What is the most radical act that you’ve done either as a child or an adult? I was a rather independent young fellow and would defy directions by my father frequently. He was a "patient man", and would kick my a** immediately . I was a slow learner, only took about 10 or so episodes for me to catch on;

Would you bow or curtsey if you were introduced to British royalty? As a civilian I probably would out of respect. When I was in the military, I would salute.

I'd guess I'd bow, but out of respect for THEIR traditions, certainly not to show any kind a subservience. (Though bowing for the right person in the right circumstances can be LOADS of fun too!!)

Happy HNW.

I accidentally burn't down a school cricket pavilion when I was in my teens.
I would bow but I've got a stiff neck...true!

I can't tell you.

I'd bow to the women. I might even prostrate myself if I thought it was worth it to get a peek. You can try and try to expunge the sexist from your brain, but some shreds will always remain.

What is the most radical act that you’ve done either as a child or an adult? I can't decide which one was most radical since there were so many..

Would you bow or curtsey if you were introduced to British royalty? Not that it'll ever happen. Rhetorically speaking, I would because it's proper etiquette and I respect traditions.

The most radical thing I ever did was skip school for 3 days....get on the boat and go on a ban the bomb match. All without my parents knowing where I was. I paid dearly for that and almost got expelled!

Yes I would curtsey if I was introduced to a member of the Royal family. Bet that surprised you.

I dined and dashed as a teen (ate food and left) with my friends. But, I felt guilty and I went back and paid the bill and gave a tip!

Would you bow or curtsey if you were introduced to British royalty?
As American Citizen I would not be obligated to curtesy or bow, but if I was American Dignitary representing my country, then I would be obligated too!

Thinking about it....

I do not believe that my "radical" has yet begun.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

It just isn't cricket burning down a cricket pavilion, but it does sound like a badge of honour!

Peeking up the Queen's skirt sounds fun, especially as i could sell my story for lots of money afterwards!

I ran away from home once; I was twenty-six years old at the time.

Would you bow or curtsey if you were introduced to British royalty?
Well that's not likely to happen is it? So I don't have to decide.

You are a good boy S.

I'd like a bowl please, your choice. I'd prefer one that is poo-less, the check's in the mail. Knowing you, I Imagine you'd charge extra for the poo. But I'm just not into that sort of shit.
Are you you ran away from home rather than being kicked out of home at the age of 26?!

I once did a runner after having a meal in a restaurant. I felt bad though not so bas as to go back and pay the bill. But it meant I could never go back to the restaurant!
