THE PINK PILL

THE PINK PILL

The US Food and Drug Administration very recently approved a Drug, flibanserin, to boost the libido of women. The small pink pill, branded as Addyi, is manufactured by a small pharmaceutical company, Sprout Pharmaceuticals.

The pink pill will go on sale in October in America only, though probably everyone will be able to soon buy the Addyi (or its copycats) online despite the FDA’s safeguards.

The FDA had rejected the Drug twice. But after intense lobbying, the FDA gave the go-ahead for the female Viagra pill. THE FDA was lobbied by a group called Even the Score that campaigns for women’s sexual health equity. Its campaign was based on the argument that if men can have a pill, women should also have a pill to increase their libido.

The pink pill, when taken daily, showed modest benefits in clinical trials. Women who took the Drug had an average of 4.4 "satisfying sexual experiences a month" compared with 3.7 for women given a placebo. The Drug was not compared against relationship therapy, sex toys or a new and better lover.

Taking the pink pill does have side-effects, such as lowered blood pressure, fainting and drowsiness, which are aggravated when alcohol or other Drugs (eg oral contraceptives) are also taken.

It’s also a little unclear about the scale of the problem of a lack of libido amongst women. One survey found 43 per cent of women had experienced a loss of sexual desire.

But one psychologist, Petra Boynton, questioned whether there is a widespread problem. She said that people “have a perception that everybody else is having fantastic sex all the time with exotic positions.” We are, aren’t we?! Perhaps we all need to take pills!

If a woman and experiencing a loss of libido, would you take the pink pill?
If a man and experiencing a loss of libido, would you take and have you taken the blue pill (or equivalent)?
Do you think others have more and better sex than you?

I’ve taken a few blue pills in my time – my erections lasted for a good day! For a post on the Viagra pill, please click THE BLUE PILL.

If a woman and experiencing a loss of libido, would you take the pink pill?
Nah, I'll just take another lover.

If a man and experiencing a loss of libido, would you take and have you taken the blue pill (or equivalent)? N/A But, if I were a man, I'd take anything.

Do you think others have more and better sex than you? Definitely, if judged by my recent dry spell.

No I'd never try it, too many side effects.

If a man and experiencing a loss of libido, would you take and have you taken the blue pill (or equivalent)? I'd never let my partner use the blue pill. I do hope you aren't serious about taking that pill, you could end up deaf, blind and alone and wanking -- could be a good title for a blog post. Hey if that is your thing --blue pill-- go for it.

Warning: Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, obstructs an enzyme that sends light signals from the retina to the brain. Doctors have known for several years that it could cause temporary vision problems in healthy men, but a new Australian study found its effects can be permanent.

Do you think others have more and better sex than you? No I doubt it.

I never finished my post on the subject, I suppose I should. It's the perception that is causing the problems. Menopause and andropause are completely normal, but due to the perception that everyone should be having more sex, loss of libido with both menopause and andropause have been medicalized -- treated as a medical problem, when it's not and never was.
Too many side effects? Are you being completely honest here?

The pills for men and women are doing very different things. Male erection enhancement drugs are increasing blood flow and helping to keep blood in the penile spongy tissue to maintain an erection. It's purely physical and has nothing to do with libido and desire. When it comes to arousal, you're on your own.
The drug intended for women, Addyi, is an attempt to make women do something they no longer wish to do- have sex. It does not promise to make them better CAPABLE of sex, because they're already there. To me, there's something not quite right about this. If said female misses sexual arousal and wants to ramp up her desire, then maybe this is the pill for her. But after menopause many women lose interest and experience a loss of libido. That ain't wrong. It's just how it is. Would you take a pill just to satisfy your husband's or partner's active libido? Maybe not. Many women are perfectly content to have less, or no sex. That ought to be their right. Yet they will visit a male gynecologist who will advise them that "Hell yes! You want and need this!"
I think the whole issue needs lots of discussion between partners.

I feel like I need to repeat- the two drugs, one for men and the other for women, are doing very different things. One enhances ability, and the other alters mood.

I think once again you managed to twist the numbers, you love to do that.
Women who took the Drug had an average of 4.4 "satisfying sexual experiences a month"
compared with 3.7 for women given a placebo

What a way to put it ! The treatment needs a month before it works to start with. Nothing like Viagra.
The results for the first month taking that pill is in fact very encouraging. What's more ...
Your stats are for increased desire, with the placebo effect to consider. It doesn't mean "yay ! I had a super bang !"
But "OK I enjoy a little bit more doing that thing with my hubby since I take it. He's happy, the dirty pig."

Do I take aphros ? Eeerr ... yes. Not mechanical ones like Viagra which gives you a hard-on even when there's nothing around.
"Damn, stupid dick, why do you stand up making it hard to pee like this ? You're painful and I want to sleep !"
Mines are natural mixes of asian and south american plants (ginseng, guarana etc) and it works during a day and a half - two days.
if and only if my libido is awaken by partners or ambiances. My, does it work ! My, are they pleased ! And ... no side effects.
I wish it would be available in Drugstores - but the pharmatical lobby prohibit them though there is no competion !

The side effects when I took the blue pill, apart from a long lasting erection, was a bit of light-headedness. I only took a pill just before a sex party as I wanted to recover quicker than usual!

It is human nature to naturally assume that but I feel most of the time it is wrong!
Viagra does vastly reduce the recovery time after erection!

There are so many mistakes with your spelling that I can't understand the point you're trying to make!

I have corrected your error, I hope you don't find me impertinent.

What happened to my graded response. I was just winding up for a comeback and it seems to be gone, chicken, eh? Did you realize you hadn't marked off for all the errors? I really tried hard, you know that don't you? I really love to get your goat.

I was wondering if you let-- apologize, offense, defense, analyze, catalog, organize and dialog -- slide, because you are an easy grader. I was about to appeal to you and see if we could come to an arrangement concerning the alleged errors you found. A bit of negotiation or extra credit, anything you can think of, to raise my grade. I really need to pass this course.
To get the required grade, i suggest you switch your spellchecker from US spelling to UK spelling. It's no wonder most of the world don't write proper Engish when US spelling is always the default setting for spallcheckers!

    SPUNKY SAID:
There's a spelling mistake in your comment. It should be medicalised not medicalized!

    SO I SAID:

I don't recognize my mistake though. I do apologize. Please forgive the offense On my honor and in my own defense, I don't believe I have done anything wrong. I really think it is you and your behavior, you are just being picky again Hugh! Why don't you analyze my response, catalog and organize any errors and we can have an ongoing dialog on the subject, maybe even continue in person one day.

I'd like to get to the centre, the heart of the matter; I really want to with every fibre of my being. I don't want to belabour the point, but you have to keep your sense of humour about this Hugh. It is the little differences that add colour and flavour to our lives, the spice of life, viva la difference! Even though you are across the pond, we are still neighbours and in many ways, very much the same.

I hope I haven't fuelled the fire with my response! Or is it fyre, because everyone knows it's tire not tyre, why do y'all spell so funny over there? I suppose you say tomah-to instead of tomay-to too!
You are getting better. Your comment is almost perfect in its spelling. Well done, have a silver star!

With the pink pill, scientists don't fully know how it works.
The trials weren't particularly exhaustive and the benefits seem quite modest given the side effects.
