A RUNT-BAITING SEASON  As many of you know, I don’t normally post photos of myself. Above is a photograph of me wearing a pink suit campaigning against bullying on the streets of Nottingham. Robin Hood would have been proud! I’m sure everyone here is against bullying. And I guess nearly everyone here has experienced bullying and maybe a few here have even been a bully themselves. My experiences of bullying took place at school, which I guess is where most people first experienced bullying. I was sent to boarding school at the age of 10. I was also very small for my age; I was a late developer. I’m now average for my age; how I like to be average. Being average is always a worthy ambition! At school there was a tradition of holding a runt-baiting season for one week every year. No one knew who announced that the season was to start and no one knew when it was to start. It just happened. Despite being popular at school with many friends, I was a runt and therefore had to be baited. For one week many boys at school baited me with insults, prods and shoves. The best way to deal with the baiting was to ignore it. Once I didn’t when I punched a boy who was baiting me; he then beat me up bad! After the week of runt-baiting, I was friends again with my baiters. There wasn’t much I could do. Tell my friends; they were either runts being baited or the runt-baiters! Tell the teachers; they didn’t want to believe it happened and it always came down to one person’s word against another’s. Tell my parents; I didn’t want them to worry about me and they couldn’t have done much to stop the baiting. It was all about survival at school. Were you bullied at school? Since my school days, I have always sided with the bullied, the runts, the weak, the poor, the homeless, the exploited, the less abled, the dispossessed, the oppressed, the powerless, the different 'other', and "the great unwashed". Yes, I’m a bleeding-heart left-wing liberal. Sorry but love always beats hate; go and fuck yourself Trump and the many others who peddle exclusion, hatred and intolerance!      |

I was never bullied. I have always stood up to bullies who were harassing other kids, and now as an adult, other people. I don't know why I turned out that way. I was bullied at school. There was one boy, much bigger than me, that really didn't like me for some reason. I did get into a few fights in school but I wouldn't consider it as bullying. Nice suit.

I agree with you, I do not support violence against the weakest. So I would not be violent toward Trump or LePen in France because the weakness of their thoughts, not violent but inflexible and resistant one day if necessary. Were you bullied at school? I got picked on some, but almost all of us did, at some time or another. I never really thought of it as bullying. Were you ever a bully at school? Again...I don't think so but there were certainly times that I poked fun or was unkind. I always felt badly about it later, and I did apologize for being a dick. I did work with a fat swaggering jackass years later who bullied anyone he could get away with bullying, and I fucked with him mercilessly. I knew my bosses respected me enough to understand what was happening. No one where we worked was ever foolish enough to call what I was doing bullying- they knew I was standing up to a bully. I got called on the carpet for my behavior several times but I refused to shut up, and they gave up on me as an intransigent bastard. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Were you bullied at school? There were a couple incidents when I was bullied to the point of doing more than ignore the fools. One was when I was in the fifth grade and had just moved to Colorado and was new in the school. A kid that was the resident bully and his dip shits found me on the playground one day, two of them held me while he kicked me once in a rather sensitive area then they ran off. I got even a couple weeks later though in the lunch line. He was in front of me and when he turned to walk away I tapped his heal with my toe causing him to do a face plant into his food tray, he never did bother me again me after that. The next time someone got stupid was in the ninth grade when I had just moved back to Vermont and was sitting in class and this jerk sitting behind me was pushing my desk/seat forward then pulling it back with his feet. He did this several times one day and I ignored him. The next day I got to class before him as usual but instead of sitting in my seat I sat in his seat which was the last one in the line of seats and up against the rear wall. The teacher noticed I had sat in the wrong seat but didn't say anything. When he came in he had only the seat in front of me, my former seat to sit in. He looked at me ugly like but I just sat there and looked at him like what are you going to do about it. So he sat down and soon after I gave him the same ride back and forth for a few times just to be sure he got the message. The rides were always done when the teacher was looking at the chalkboard writing. Later I heard he had issued a school yard challenge to beat the shit out of me after school but I didn't see him out there when I went out to the bus. The teacher moved me over to the other side of the room the next day. The guy never bothered me anymore though. My Brother had leaked some information about what a mean ass fighter I was the day of the challenge telling about how I could kick his ass and he was bigger then me even though I was a year older then him, so I guess the bully had chickened out. The only other time that anybody tried to bother me at school was one time when I was walking to my next class one day and this boneheaded moron basketball player that was taller than me and a year younger than I, that thought he was pretty tough decided to try and trip me. He was walking along behind me with his buddy and being an obnoxious asshole and kept trying to kick my foot over causing it to hook on my other ankle (the same trick I had used on the bully from grade school). This was when I was in the tenth grade. He tried this trick twice and at first I though he was doing it by accident and didn't do anything as it hadn't worked as I was quite good on my feet and didn't fall just a quick stumble save moment. But the third time it was clear that it was on purpose and I was just coming to some stairs going up. I didn't fall then either but I decided this idiot needed a lesson. At the top of the stairs I quickly handed my books to someone in the hall there and turned around and grabbed him by the front of his shirt and lifted him up and slammed him against the wall and had a little talk with him about what would happen if he bothered me again. The only other times people did anything to annoy me was their talking shit which was never anything that bothered me so I just ignored it. But when people get touchy or physical I get intolerant. Words have never really bothered me but that doesn't make it acceptable for people to be saying things and messing with people. Were you ever a bully at school? No, I've always found such behavior repulsive and immature and generally showing a lack of intelligence.  Vive La Difference

I've been bullied, and didn't bully. I usually made friends with the kids who were bullied. They're my "people". Happy HNW PS...I wuv the baby animal pictures. Great post and love the suit! I was fortunate to never be bullied and wasn't a bully myself. I am one to make friends with all types of people and it's what makes them and myself better people in the long run. I have learned you don't get far with others if you don't treat them how you wish to be treated. Be kind to all, you never know what THEY have been through. Rachel Mae

I think shop stewards are great. I fondly remember Red Robbo at British Leyland. At work we have a shop steward though he's called a representative. He's much better than the trade union itself! [image]
