Another mask related eye injury.

What do you do when the thing designed save your life from COVID-19 nearly takes out an eye?

I was in my office, pretending not be irritated as hell with the pokey thing inside my face mask, when Office Max walked past my office.

Unbeknownst me, the stretchy ear piece was slowly separating from the mask, ready rip apart at any moment.

"Are you winking at me?" Jokingly, Office Max started winking back at me.

"No.... There's something in the corner of my mask, scratching me...." Pulling the mask away from my cheek slightly, I was hoping alleviate some of the discomfort and somehow smooth down the rough spot.

So... yah. That isn't exactly what happened.

Imagine my surprise when the ear loop ripped off entirely and snapped me in the eye.

"Oh My God! I think I'm blind!"

My eye watered instantly, tiny white dots were floating everywhere before my eyes. I blinked my eye hoping make it better...

It got worse!

Suddenly I was unable even OPEN my eye now.

"Holy shit, I may have detached a retina."

I even made myself laugh at that statement... It took several long moments and a lot of smeared eye makeup before I was able to regain eye normalcy.

I can honestly say, I will never be able to look at those masks the same way again.

You may have some scratches on the cornea from that thing hitting you in the eye. Might be a good idea to go visit your eye doctor and have it checked out.
I was ok by the time I left work. I don't think it actually got anything but the white part of my eye, in the outside corner of my eye. It did water for quite some time, but haven't had any issues since.

I agree completely. But don't go to mine. He made me wait in the parking lot in my car and had his minions cart out paperwork to me instead of sending it to me via email. Then...I waited outside in the freaking heat till the one person in the waiting room left. Ugh.
Everything is like that here, as well. I had to wait in my car to get my hair cut....

Ouch! I'm betting something similar has happened to many others
I wear masks that have the same material that goes over the ears as the actual mask (like a one-piece).
I have a really hard time with the cloth masks... They get moist and I can't breathe through them. It is probably my anxiety, but I feel like I'm suffocating.

I'm back to normal, thankfully. I also cannot wear contacts, I have a hard time with eyedrops even. Just the thought of touching my eye with anything makes me wince.

Dearie me McLade, just stick yer finger in yer eye, do the job properly.........

Aye, the masks can be hazardous, I've near scratched my eye a few times. Still haven't really found a good one that fits properly yet either. I might just wear a motorbike helmet. But then I'd probably melt.
None of the masks fit me well... My ears are big, and apparently far back, so the ear loops are always too small and the mask is tight to my face. I feel like i'm suffocating most of the time.

I am on the way to my eye doctor today for an infection I think began when my elastic let go and smacked my eye. Been runny and itchy for three days Take care of your vision
Yikes! I hope everything is ok! My eye is back to normal and seems to be doing fine... Thank God.

Sorry to hear about your mishap.

I suggest making an appointment with an optometrist to determine the extent of the damage. The optometrist may refer you to an ophthalmologist (eye doctor).

Literally... I think the vision in my left eye is permanently impaired.
