Those that choose to 'leave the past in the past" or to forget the past, or ignore the past, also leave all the lessons learned in the past as well, and are doomed to repeat the same mistakes and painfully learn the same lessons all over again. I am native american, I am told almost daily to leave the past in the past, but that excuses all the abuse I, and my ancestors, have endured for the last 500 years ! That is NOT fair ! I have been married 3 times, but no woman wants to hear of that, but they dont realize my past is what made the man they are interested in TODAY !! And amazing, when a problem arises, and I know the remedy, they praise my knowledge, but sure dont want to know how I arrived at such knowledge. There is a phrase used in geology (yes, I have a degree in that), THE PAST IS THE KEY TO THE PRESENT, meaning what happened in the past & has been explained, will answer what/why/where/& when something happens in the present or future, a proven example, not just theory or speculation. Our past is ALWAYS part of us, whether we like it or not, it IS what has shaped us and made us the people you know today, good or bad. We can modify, and sometimes change who we are, but our past still lurks in the dark corners of our brain to resurface or to cause self-doubt about what we are today. You cannot escape the past !! Except maybe with death ?
