No, I'm not talking about the burger/fries places. But the old fashioned Drive - In movie places. At one point there were five Drive-Ins in the area. Seven if you count that the one place had three screens. All but one of these places have vanished into history. The Star, the Skyway, Eastway, and the Peninsula are all gone. Replaced by Subdivisions, a shopping plaza ( where I buy my groceries now ) a Nature Center ( the old Peninsula ) and an abandoned lot up for sale that's zoned for industrial use. The lone Drive -In left is The Sunset. Located outside of town in a rural area..safely hidden in between farms and potato fields it alone has with stood the ravages of time and "progress". At one point the owner of the Sunset had the place up for sale as well, but took it off the market and decided to keep the place open, they are still showing movies today, and from what I hear they are doing a good business. Oh, it's not like it was during the hay days of the sixties...but they are surviving.

I haven't been to a Drive - In since I dated my ex wife. Back in the early eighties. At the time the Drive - In's were on their last leg. Screens in disrepair, speakers long gone replace by broadcast on low wattage AM. radio and not very well attended. Most of them were already on the market for sale, the Sunset was still doing a good business, but then they were running XXX movies instead of the Blockbuster summer time fare. I'll give you three guesses as to the Drive In my ex and I went to on our dates..and the first two guesses don't count. The two of us fumbling around in the back seat, parked in the back row...not that that mattered..it didn't matter really because the same thing was happening in the first row what with the XXX's playing on the screen.

I miss going to the Drive -Ins, something about sitting in your car and enjoying a couple of films. It just doesn't seem like summer with out them.

Ah well, I no longer drive, so Drive - In's are no longer an option for me any who. But it's nice to remember.....

Off to shower now....

I remember as a kid ; seeing most New Disney Movies ( Bambi, Mary Poppins etc . ) as they came out on Friday night at the local Drive - In and for my mother it was every New John Wayne Movie

I saw most of those Disney films at the Warner, usually on a Saturday afternoon. Most of the ones we saw at the drive in were of the beach blanket type, or Western's ( my dad loved those ) The first movie I saw totally through ( didn't fall asleep in the car ) Was Romeo & Juliette. First time I saw a woman topless in a movie, also the first time I saw a guys nude butt on screen. I can't remember which I liked seeing more? Have a good one Cowboy.

We used turn our headlights off and sneak in the exit of one outside Buffalo where I grew up. A buddy got caught while on a date. LOL How is your leg? Had me concerned that you had torn a muscle.

Yeah we couldn't get away with that one. They had people watching the exits here. Though we used to get dropped off behind the one that was on 12th. St. The Star, and walk in through the woods from the train track and sneak in that way. The way my leg felt I thought I had torn a muscle as well. It's getting better now though, still hurts to walk up or down stairs, and pains me when I'm walking around too much. A few more days putting on the "Icy-Hot" stuff should have me right as rain soon. Have a good one Bella...

Oh i remember them...rem them well . It was magical going with my parents and waking up the next day in bed. We had a play ground right in front of the screen, so the children could play before the movie started. I also rem sneaking in in the trunk of cars as a teenager. We have one that recently opened up on a fair ground for friday n saturday nights. Its like 30$ a car load. So far its gotten good reviews. I havent gone cuz i dont know if i can sit that long ....and i def would have to use the rest room. With covid and all im sure its all a different experience. I may try before summers end. Nice post..
Enjoy your weekEND!

We had the playgrounds here as well, I think they were standard with Dive-In's. The only place that didn't have them was the Peninsula ( they had the three screens ) not enough room for the playgrounds I guess? Or perhaps an insurance thing. Though on holiday evenings you could watch the fireworks from your car as the local Amusement park set theirs off over the lake, two movies and a fireworks show..can't beat that. I think the Sunset does the carload thing now as well. Last I know they were charging ten bucks a car, than again that was a few years ago when I was still driving. Have a good one Jajo enjoy your weekend!

We went to the drive in Friday night to see Black Widow and Cruella. No XXX movies down here in the Bible belt.

Yeah I read your blog this morning, was a bit envious that you go to go to the drive in No XXX's here anymore either. Unless you head over to the ABS and put slugs into the booths. Have a good one Pony!
